How to Get Back on Track with Health and Fitness
Okay so you were doing great with working out alll the time, you were eating clean, and were looking and feeling great but you got off track and now you need a comeback. Sometimes things happen. We get so busy with the day to day requirements and chores life throws at us and working out may not always be a priority. I recently moved and got a new job with longer hours. Working out used to be something I did everyday and looked forward to but since the move it stopped being a priority and I went from going every day and loving it to going a couple months with out going at all. I know what its like to just so exhausted from all your daily responsibilities that you cant even imagine hopping onto a stair master and you hop right into bed instead. But then one day you put your foot down and decide to commit yourself to get back into the healthy routine you were once obsessed with and felt so ecstatic over. Or possibly you were never in a healthy routine but you are interested in starting, either way this will help you navigate the start of this health and fitness journey so you can get back into a place where you feel confident and healthy.
- Plan out and schedule workouts and treat them like appointments. My schedule has been soso busy lately that it truly just is hard to find time when I can fit in workouts. My solution to this was to schedule them on my calendar and treat them as if they are appointments. Prioritize them and plan ahead for them so you have no excuse to not make it work.
- Keep in mind what motivated you to begin and use it to propel you. Make a list and keep remembering it when you’re tired or when you’re feeling challenged. There are reasons why it was so important for you to start this journey in the first place and to decide that this was important to you so don’t loose sight of the reasons why. One of my biggest motivators is how happy exercise makes me feel.
- Consistency is key, so stay consistent. You can have a really amazing workout one day but then if you go an entire week after that without working out then you’re not going to see the results you want. to see results you need to commit to it and stay consistent.
- Make meals in advance. For a busy life you need to help yourself by prepping food in advance. Healthy food takes time to prepare. Preparing large quantities ahead of time makes it easy when you are in a rush or on the go. You are also less likely to reach for something unhealthy if you have your meal all prepped for you.
- Do home workouts. Like I said I know what it is like to be so busy that setting aside time to workout can be difficult. Home workouts are a really easy way to still get a good sweat in without the added time of getting on gym clothes, driving to the gym and back etc. I usually just do them right in my socks when I get home. I have a yoga mat and a bunch of small free weights that I keep handy for days when home workout are necessary. I have a few routines that I have created for myself to follow or I’ll do a video on youtube to keep things fun and challenging because there are so many great free videos out there. If you are feeling really tired you can even do a Pilates video where you get to lay down the whole time.
- Take it day by day. Don’t stress about tomorrow, don’t stress about yesterday, only focus on if you are being the best you you can be today. Are you doing everything you can do to bring you closer to your goals?
- Hold yourself accountable. Don’t listen to excuses. Yes you’re going to be tired, yes you’re going to want to cheat if you’re out with your friends but remember why you started. Don’t let your self fall victim to your old habits. Make sure you are making it to your workouts, make sure you are eating healthy, and make sure you don’t give up! The only person who is going to truly hold you accountable and make sure you achieve your goals is yourself. Keep your goals in mind and stick with it.
- Have green juices and smoothies everyday. Smoothies and green juices are just soso good for you and their a great way to fill yourself up when you are having a food or sweet craving. You can pack them full of vitamins & nutrients that will have you feeling wonderful. Its a great way to minimize calories and sweets but to also deliver your body what it needs to be healthy.
- Drink tons of water. Water helps to naturally detox your body by flushing out toxins, it boosts your metabolism, helps you to burn more calories, can make you feel fuller so that you eat smaller portions. Your body also needs to be hydrated in order to rum properly, and you skin and hair look so much better when you are hydrated.
- Keep your fridge stocked with natural whole foods such as fruits and veggies. If you have plenty of healthy food easily acessable to you you will be less likely to reach for the junk.
Hopefully this post motivated you and made the task of getting back into fitness and a healthier diet seem easier. You can do this as long as you commit to it and make it a priority!
