Hair Care Rules

Healthfully Beautiful

The Hair Care Rules Rapunzel Would be Following if She was a Real Girl

One of the absolute most important things to most girls is having healthy and beautiful hair. It is the accessorie that you are always wearing, and if your hair is totally dull and frizzy your whole look is going to suffer. And the opposite is also completely true. If your hair looks long shiny and amazing it doesn't matter as much if you are under dressed or should have spend a little longer on your makeup application. You will still shine because "your hair is the crown that you never take off". For many of us one of the biggest challenges to keeping our hair healthy is combating the damage we inflict on it on a daily basis such as blow drying, straightening, and for blondes like me bleaching every month or so! Although we do all of these damaging things to our hair we still love it and want to keep it looking healthy, full and beautiful. Luckily there are things you can do an products you can use to strengthen your hair so it looks and feels super healthy and is able to grow longer. If you want hair that makes you look like a princess straight out of a Disney film then follow this hair care routine!

Use High Quality Products

I have tried and tested so many different hair products. After years of different experimentation and efforts to strengthen my hair I have finally found products that work amazingly. I use them in my every day hair care routine, and cant go without them. Here they are:

My Shampoo and Conditioner are Living Proof. I love the Living Proof line and actually switch off between their other Shampoos and Conditioners as well, because they are all great. I really like to use the Restore conditioner, especially if my hair is lacking moisture. I switch off between the Perfect Hair Day shampoo and the No Frizz Shampoo, I love them both! This brand can be a little bit on the pricier side but the results are totally worth it! Once I noticed what a difference it made in my hair and how much more manageable it was I was hooked. Their products also keep my hair very healthy & doesn't have harmful chemicals in it like Sulfates, Silicones, and Parabens.

Next when I get out of the shower I apply an oil. It's important to make sure to apply sparingly, because if you use too much your hair could end up looking super greasy. It's always better to build up products rather than apply too much all at once. I use Moroccan Oil Light. If you have light hair you should be using the Light one so it wont darken the color, but if you don't have light hair you can uses the regular.

Use a Heat Protectant

I always apply a heat protectant before applying any heat to my hair so that my hair is fully protected and ready to be styled with minimal damage. The one I use is I use is Caviar Anti-Aging Perfect Iron Spray which protects up to 450 degrees and is Sulfate, Phthalate, Synthetic Dye, GMO, and Paraben Free. This is such an important step if you are going to be applying any heat to your hair, because if it is not protected you could do a lot of damage which will lead to breakage and split ends. You hair cannot grow long if your ends are split.

Avoid Products with Harmful Chemicals

This tip is so incredibly important. Many people buy into marketing for drug store hair care products that make false claims of delivering the desired results of strong, healthy, and shiny hair & some products even claim to be "natural" when usually they contain all types of harmful chemicals that are incredibly damaging to your hair and your scalp. The main offenders are Sulfates. if a product contains sulfates it is not good for your hair or for your scalp. You want to nourish your hair and scalp with non harmful ingredients, otherwise you are being counterproductive and you are only going to do more harm then good in the long run. When it comes to hair products you need to be buying quality products with quality ingredients, or you will have trouble keeping your hair healthy and growing it out and you may even experience scalp irritation. other ingredients you will most definitely want to avoid are Parabens. I know I talk a lot about avoiding these in your makeup and skin care but they also should be avoided in haircare products. They are harmful preservatives and they can be absorbed through your scalp. The next ingredient to avoid is Alchahol, if it is high in the ingredient list it means there is a higher concentration of it in the product and it can be very drying. Synthetic colors are in many shampoos and conditioners to make them look pretty, but its obviously so much more important for you and your hair to look pretty! Synthetic colors are actually illegal in other countries and are linked to disease. The last ingredient I recommend staying away from is Silicones, they cause product buildup and can make your hair look and feel greasy, they are use to add artificial shine, but trust me natural non-synthetic shine is so much better. There are many many other ingredients that can be harmful but these are the main ones that I recommend avoiding if you do not want to see hair or scalp drying or damage from product use. It is important not to be fooled by marketing on lables or by pretty bottles and colors or frangrance. Go for quality & your hair will thank you by looking supper pretty and feeling healthier!

Use Reparative Hair Masks

To optimize the health of your hair you will need to use masks regularly. They can be used to add moisture, minimize frizz, and to even mend your hair. Remember to use something with natural ingredients (paraben and sulfate free). Keep in mind you only want to do masks 2-3 times a week, no more. They have great benefits for your hair but if you over use them they can actually have the opposite effect and leave your hair feeling brittle and dry.

Eat Vitamin Rich Whole Foods

When you are eating the right type of food to nourish your hair and keeping up with those hair growing vitamins you truly do see a difference and quickly! if you are malnourished and vitamin deficient it will show in your hair and in your skin. I try to get most of the vitamins my body need from whole plant based foods, and I make sure to ear a very vitamin rich diet. Eating foods containing the right vitamins helps to thicken your hair have it looking shiny and healthy and it really does help it to grow quicker as well. I do also take vitamins for hair health which are the Hair Skin and Nails Vitamins and you can find them at any store that sells vitamins, however these arent essential they just really help. Some plant based foods to make sure to include in your diet everyday that will help you hair are Spinach, Strawberries, Sweet Potatoes, Almonds or Almond Butter, Avacado, Chia Seeds, Beans, Whole Grain Oats, and Carrots.

Get Trims Every 6-8 Weeks

When you are trying to grow your hair getting a trim may seem like the wrong thing to do, but the opposite is actually true! Getting a small trim removes the spit ends that lead to breakage. If you keep up with split end removal you will minimize any breakage and your hair will look and feel much healthier. This helps it to grow at a quicker rate, because when your hair is constantly breaking it cant grow longer.

Drink Plenty of Water

Your hair needs water! If you are dehydrated your hair cannot grow. Drinking plenty of water will have your hair looking super healthy, and feeling strong, and it will aid in ensuring your hair can grow quickly.

Don't Use too Much Heat

Its no secret that applying heat to your hair can be damaging. Along with using a good heat protestant (mentioned above) you should also minimize the number of days per week that you are heal styling.

Sleep With your Hair in a Loose Braid

Wearing a tight pony tail or bun can put stress on your hair and it stretch the strands to the point of damage. This is especially true while you sleep because as you toss and turn while sleeping it can be pulled. Avoid tight hair dos and instead opt for a loose braid or low pony with a hair scruntchy that wont get stuck in your hair.

Remember to be patient, and realize that it takes work and it is necessary to keep up with eating right and using the right types of products to see the results you are looking to achieve.
